Last Monday 14th of November Juan Verde, President of the Advanced Leadership Foundation, was a guest speaker at AmCham Gibraltar, where he gave a Lecture on Entrepreneurial Innovation titled “Innovation: The Key to Success in the New Economy.”
The event was sponsored by The Department of the Environment and Climate Change, HM Government of Gibraltar, and aimed to show what companies need to do to stay successful and competitive in the world market of the 21st century. During his talk, Juan wanted to offer a fresh and positive perspective on the current state of the economy, namely golden opportunities for reinvention and economic growth. Organizations and corporations have and excellent chance to reinvent themselves as the engines that will move the economy forwards through smart innovation and entrepreneurial approaches. “If you want to be innovative, if you want to raise the ratio of innovation in your country or your company, you actually have to bet on your entrepreneurs” and “yes, there is room for innovation and even entrepreneurship within companies”, he stated.
The Lecture was held at the Garrison Library and was attended by former Minister for Education Gilbert Licudi, current Minister for Education Dr John Cortes, Chief Secretary Ernest Gomez and Director of Education Joey Britto, as well as other guests including Gibraltarian students who were part of the internship program in Washington DC. Angelo Cerisola, spoke about his experience during the program and as an intern in Congressman Fleischmann's office, a republican representing the 3rd District of Tennessee. He was happy to be "working in the frontline of American politics, where both policy and legislation is made and "rub shoulders with the movers and the shakers of the free world!". He thanked Mr Verde "on behalf of all the interns both past and present [...] for being here today, and for supporting these internship placements" as well as the Government of Gibraltar "for funding these internships at The Washington Center, and for offering young people like myself high quality professional experiences."
