Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez represented Orange County, CA in the US House of Representatives 1997 to 2017. Ms. Sanchez held senior positions on the Armed Services and the Homeland Security Committee. She is a recognized leader in international affairs, national security, counterterrorism, and nuclear proliferation/nonproliferation matters.
Representative Sanchez was Vice Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee as well as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Border and Maritime Security, overseeing ports, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and borders. Ms. Sanchez addressed issues ranging from immigration reform to human trafficking to water security to oversight of surveillance programs.
Ms. Sanchez led efforts in policy with respect to education, small business regulatory reform, healthcare initiatives, veterans’ affairs, and the technology innovation agenda. Ms. Sanchez championed the construction of the largest water recycling project in the world (in Orange County), and directed research funding to universities to develop a large Bio Med-Bio Tech industry.
Ms. Sanchez is a Harvard Advanced Leadership Fellow, 2018. She has consulted to international and US clients on financial structures, infrastructure and bond issues. She is a recognized public speaker and author on topics ranging from technology in the military, geopolitical current events, cybersecurity, future technologies, politics, and diversity. She has taught leadership and international politics classes at Chapman and Concordia universities and Semester at Sea. She is fluent in English, Italian and Spanish.
